I’m a firm believer in functional clothing. This morning I got dressed as usual in my versatile and practical suit. It was slightly cold so I decided to accessorise with a scarf.
Fashions come and go – and I’ve never really felt that I’m a fashion victim, choosing instead to put on pretty much the same thing, day in, day out. I’m old enough to remember flares the first time around. When they finally fell out of favour towards the end of the seventies everybody said they’d never be back. I suppose I always assumed that my late sixties suit of choice would never be a hit again either.
Imagine my surprise when I showed up for work this morning. Bulbs were flashing everywhere (thankfully I have a gold-lined visor). Lots of people took selfies. I posed with someone and her inflatable dinosaur. I was interviewed by three film crews and by a couple of Italian fashion magazines.
It just goes to show: those things in your wardrobe that you’re tempted to throw away will come back one day like Halley’s comet. And if you really love wearing something, don’t deviate. To thine own self be true.
