Much talk about the logic (or otherwise) of Ed Miliband’s admission that the Wallace and bacon sandwich things have caught the eye.
Many are saying that referencing these things is a daft move on his part.
Remember the 24 hour news cycle? For many things it has been replaced by the 24 minute news cycle.
Social media purges us of those subjects that we feel the need to critique, debate, digest, ridicule in minutes. We internalize, shoot from the hip and move on. Things that would have got the government into a tight spot for weeks in the past are subjected to a rush of social catharsis in no time.
Then we move on to the ‘next big thing’.
In the lead up to the 2015 poll I expect we’ll see more public acceptances by politicians of unhelpful narratives. The issues are soon purged and we find ourselves bored by them. Our attention spans have been condensed – as have our strategies for dealing with issues – and this has consequences for the political arsenal.
