Last year we issued the first draft of our Periodic Table of Story Elements. Each of the elements on the table is a potential ingredient for a story. If your story doesn’t contain at least one of the elements, the chances are that it isn’t a story. Since we issued the first version, we’ve been working with our friends at the University of Sheffield on a refined version. Here it is. We hope you find it useful. Without wishing to mix our scientific metaphors, we think it’s a good litmus test for a story. Do feel free to share it widely. If we’ve missed an element we’d love to hear your suggestions. Best wishes for successful storytelling in 2014.
